A new food hall for One Hanson Place? Plus Whole Foods signs a Smith Street lease
We're sharing neighborhood openings, events, happenings and more.
Here’s what’s happening this week:
✨ Local Happenings and New Openings ✨
It’s our Substack Anniversary! What started as a neighborhood newsletter has grown into a thriving community of readers who love discovering the businesses, stories, events, and hidden gems that make this corner of Brooklyn special.
We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has read, subscribed, shared, and supported us along the way. To celebrate, we’re offering 20% off annual paid subscriptions for Cobble Hill Collective readers until Monday June 15!
A major new dining destination could be coming to One Hanson Place. Plans have been submitted to transform portions of the landmarked Williamsburg Savings Bank Tower into a food hall featuring a mix of food and beverage vendors.
Reports indicate Whole Foods has signed a lease for the former Rite Aid location on Smith Street. While details remain limited, the move would bring a highly anticipated grocery option to one of the neighborhood’s most prominent vacant corners.
After building a following through brewery pop-ups across Brooklyn, Chaat Dog has officially opened its first permanent location inside Time Out Market. The concept blends classic American hot dogs with the bold flavors of South Asian chaat, creating a menu that reflects founder Pervaiz Shallwani's Pakistani and Chicago roots.
There's a new tenant lined up for the former Mooburger space on Court Street. Compton's, the popular sandwich shop known for its stacked creations and loyal following, is preparing to open in the neighborhood. Stay tuned for updates!
It’s Pride Month! Support local businesses this month and beyond, check out our list of spots here. We’ll be sharing Pride events in the neighborhood all month long!
Brooklyn-based playwright Bess Wohl made history on Sunday night when she won the Tony Award for Best Play for “Liberation”. Out of the four women who have won the awards, only two of them were from Brooklyn. Congrats, Bess!
Business Buzz: Ziggy's is leaning into summer with a refreshed seasonal menu, plans to bring in outdoor dining soon, and additional mahjong nights. The restaurant is also celebrating Bosnia's unexpected World Cup run with match screenings and drink specials. It's shaping up to be an even easier spot to settle in for a long summer evening in DUMBO.
As we celebrate one year of Cobble Hill Collective, I'm feeling especially grateful for events like the F&F Pizza Sessions (details below). One of my favorite parts of putting together this newsletter is discovering the unique experiences happening right in our own backyard.
See you around Cobble Hill!
