Here’s what’s happening this week:
✨ Local Happenings and New Openings ✨
NAKO Is Coming to Carroll Gardens! Brooklyn Heights favorite NAKO is expanding with a second location at the corner of 3rd and Smith Streets! Known for its extensive coffee options and pastries, the neighborhood spot is bringing its signature charm to Carroll Gardens, with an opening anticipated around Halloween. Stay tuned for more details and a closer look inside. 👀
Compton’s Opens in Cobble Hill! The popular sandwich shop has officially landed as a new lunch option in the area, complete with a retro-inspired space featuring vintage Pac-Man arcade games.
A Halloween takeover has arrived at Someday Bar! Black Lagoon Pop-Up has transformed the space into a haunted hideaway for the month of October, complete with creepy decor, cobwebs, skeletons, life-sized octopus tentacles, and themed cocktails. Stop by for a festive night out and plenty of spooky photo ops!

Catch a sneak peek inside the Carroll Gardens Library! After years of renovations, the Carroll Gardens Library is getting ready to welcome neighbors back. Council Member Shahana Hanif recently shared a first look at the updated space ahead of its grand reopening on December 1.
Maman’s DUMBO location is teaming up with skincare brand MAËLYS for a limited-time collaboration from October 21-23. Stop by to try the exclusive SO-SILKY Latte, featuring vanilla, oat milk, and maple. On October 21, the first 50 customers will also receive a complimentary 12oz drink of their choice and a deluxe sample of MAËLYS’ SO-SILKY body scrub.
Brooklyn Basketball expands to Gowanus and beyond! The official youth basketball program of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty is opening three new locations in Gowanus, Greenpoint, and Bushwick in 2027! The expansion will bring more opportunities for local kids through after-school programs, camps, clinics, and competitive play, along with expanded school partnerships.
I can’t believe we’re already heading into the last full week of October! It’s been a month full of fun new openings, and I especially loved my recent visit to Smør. On my bucket list before the month is over: heading to Someday Bar to check out their Halloween takeover. Hope you’re enjoying these fall days and finding a little time to explore, too.
